I am a Russian journalist, writer, and activist.

I am the author of I Love Russia: Reporting from a Lost Country, which has been published in fifteen languages and named one of the Best Books of 2023 by The New Yorker and Time. As a longtime special correspondent for the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, I am known for my reporting on organized crime, LGBTQ rights, environmental destruction, marginalized communities, and Russia's war in Ukraine.

My work has received major international honors, including the Pushkin House Book Prize, the European Press Prize, and the Gerd Bucerius Prize for Free Press of Eastern Europe. I was also a 2024–2025 Nieman Fellow at Harvard University.

At 91ɬÂþ, I will teach courses on contemporary reportage, contemporary Russian literature, and writing in times of ongoing catastrophe.
