I am a scholar of Black religion and Black feminist and womanist thought. My work is interested in the morals and values of Black women in the American south as influenced by religion. My work seeks to expand the conversation of gender and sexuality in Black religion. This work is influenced by my roots from a small country church in South Carolina. Always questioning the systems establishing order within this space, my work seeks to disrupt restrictive religious narratives. 

My work has appeared in public forums and publications such as the Public Religion Research Institute, Society for Christian Ethics, and Queer and Trans Studies in Religion journal. I am deeply invested in using pop culture as a medium of study and as teaching material. My students can expect assignments that engage with the world around us through popular forms of media, film, music, art, and technology. 

My current research looks at the role of race, gender, sexuality, and religion in women’s basketball. This research grows out of a deep love and appreciation for college and professional basketball.
